Dear Guiness Book of World Records – I think I have an entry for you - Short Attention have crammed 29 songs onto a 7-inch EP. Composed of familiar NYC/NJ pop/punk scene veterans (Mikey Erg, Grath Madden, Dirtbike Dan Paquin, Slaughterhouse 4's Chadd Derkins, and Chelsea Lacatena,) everybody takes turns writing and singing lead, on infectious, often silly tunes that run from about 10 seconds to half a minute long. From toilet paper to "Lost" to cell phones to the usual boy/girl nonsense, Short Attention supershort pop songs becomes maddening and annoying when someone latches onto a riff or melody that you know could have made an awesome song, if only it lasted a little longer than the time it takes to sneeze. So yeah, there's a lot of gimmick to get past and not every idea on here is a gem, but given that bands like the Ergs and Steinways do really short songs anyway, this is something you'll probably want to have in your collection (it's already sold out on vinyl but it should be available online and on CD-R.)

    Punk Or Nothing

I can't think of many ways to describe this release that the title doesn't already suggest.  This is insane.  I never thought you could fit so many songs onto a 7".  Short Attention delivers twenty-nine twenty-second songs, topics ranging from cabbage to co-eds to toilet paper.  For real.  This is silly.  Buy it.  If not for the songs, for the total absurdity of it all.

    Maximum Rock N Roll

Holy shit! 29 (count 'em!) tracks! And it's not grindcore/thrash/poop! Fast blasts of poppy punk make up this unusual record. Male/female vocals, nice noisy guitars, and more tempo changes than you can shake a stick at make this quite a listen. I think this is the girl from DIRT BIKE ANNIE and I'm basing that on the fact that she sounds like her... and she's wearing a DBA t-shirt. I'm sure they're all from other bands (wait a minute, I think I've got it... if my t-shirt hypothesis is correct then this is members of DIRT BIKE ANNIE, THE ERGS!, THE UNLOVABLES, THE STEINWAYS, and the wonderfully named SLAUGHTERHOUSE FOUR). The twenty-ninth track is a CHIXDIGGIT! cover. I like this. Very, very silly... very, very good.

    Nuthin' Zine

When you hear the term "pop punk super group" you kind of expect something monumental and dynamic, especially when you look at the line up of bands who have donated members: The Ergs, Dirt Bike Annie, Slaughterhouse Four, The Unlovables and The Steinways. Well this 29 song 7" (yes, that's right) definitely delivers the dynamic, but not in a way that you would expect if you don't already know this band. The songs are short, spastic and mind-numbingly hilarious. As singers switch off from song to song in fifteen second bursts you can get lost quickly. You're listening to a song about porno and the next thing you know you're writing down a shopping list, it can be a little dizzying. It can also be a boatload of fun. By the way, this review is longer than the lyrics to at least a dozen Short Attention songs!

To make it short: New York City pop punk super group plays thirty second (and shorter) songs. I'm not going to say "THESE SONGS ARE SO DEEP AND PERSONAL TO ME", but it's a fun listen, and I'm interested to see if they keep going on, or if this just ends up being a one 7" of forty-some songs deal. Also, "Numbers" is a great song.

A novelty? Maybe. Novel? Definitely. Short Attention is a pop punk super group that plays extremely short, yet surprisingly catchy songs. On this 7" there are twenty-six originals and a Velvet Underground adaptations. It contains members of the Ergs!, the Unlovables, Dirt Bike Annie, Slaughterhouse Four, and the Steinways. This is the record you go for when you can't decide which song to put next on the mix tape. There are so many different songs with different topics and levels of seriousness you're bound to find one that fits. I even have a sneaking suspicion that's what they were going for, too. If you are fanatical about any of these members' other bands, you need this. If you are just a fan, this would be fun to have. And if you don't really care about pop punk, then just keep on doin' what you're doin', you silly bastard.

    Rude Review

This must be the most unusual release ever. A 7" record as a FULL LENGTH? This cannot be. But yes, my friends Short Attention bring 29 songs in just over 10 minutes with nothing over 30 seconds. The band is made up of noteworthy members of The Steinways, Dirt Bike Annie and The Ergs. They switch hit the vocals on every song and are heavy on the Pop in this punk concoction. These are silly songs I could get stuck in my head for weeks. Songs I wouldn't be afraid to blurt out loud in public. I caught their performance at this year's Insubordination Records fest and they were a crowd favorite. I enjoyed watching the band enjoy playing fun songs to a great crowd. So, if you're a fan of offbeat wit and tell it like it is but in a fun way cynicism than look no further. You can get the record from any number of distros or the band themselves. Try some of the links below.
